REMAP expert meeting

VU University Amsterdam, 16-18 October 2025
The REMAP-project organized an expert-meeting that was aimed at developing a Companion to Meaningful Reading, which will help university and high school teachers incorporate meaningful reading practices into their courses. Meaningful reading practices imply that literary, philosophical, and historical texts are read for personal meaning and intellectual and moral growth more than for disciplinary purposes.
Representatives from the four partner universities – University of Navarra, University of Amsterdam, University of Latvia, and Bratislava International School of Liberal Arts – and the high school Ayalde, presented drafts of their chapters. Topics included: theoretical foundations and reading techniques, best practices, genres, and themes.
Keynote speeches were presented by:
Karen Bohlin, Director of the Practical Wisdom Project at the Abigail Adams Institute
Edward Brooks, Director of the Oxford Character Project
Olivia Fialho, Senior researcher in empirical and computational literary studies, Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences
